Are you ready to change your life in 2020 but you aren’t sure where to start? If you’re anything like me, or like most people, you’ve made resolutions in the past, only to watch them fall by the wayside just a few weeks in.

And it’s not because you don’t want to keep them. It’s not because you lack willpower. It’s not because you are a failure or any other thing that you’ve done wrong.

No, the reason those resolutions haven’t stuck is that you’ve not had a specific and actionable strategy in place.

As I spent some time at the end of 2019 thinking about how I could help more women in 2020, I decided to create the Feel Amazing Naked Reboot

Because again, it’s not that you’ve done anything wrong or failed in any way; you just need a plan, a strategy that will help you meet those goals you set for yourself.

If you’re ready to tackle the year ahead with renewed energy and confidence, sign up now to hold your spot. This is a 5-day training with daily video teaching from me, along with a workbook to fill out your own action plan. There are even bonuses!

Is Your Goal Too Big?

Do you have a huge goal you want to reach? Maybe you’d love to lose 50 lbs this year and so, you focus in on that 50 lbs. Maybe you’re $50K in debt and you want to get out. And all day you find yourself thinking about that looming debt.

Whether it’s wanting to get married, wanting to have kids, or wanting to buy your dream home, we tend to focus on the big picture of how to get there. We try to find the perfect spouse, imagine what our kids will be like, and plan out the rooms in that dream home.

And hear me, it’s awesome to dream big! I want you to dream big.

The problem is that the big goals are kind of overwhelming, and if we don’t have a strategy in place to baby step our way to the goal, we will never reach it. And so when we don’t reach the goal or we don’t reach it as soon as we thought, we think we’ve failed.

Are You Focusing on the Right Things?

The day this episode goes live is just a few days into January and I’m already seeing it all over the Internet:

“Eat these foods and lose 10 lbs in 5 days!”

“Change your life in 30 days with this exercise plan!”

“Ready for a new start? Follow this life-changing plan and see results in 30 days!”

Listen here, ain’t nobody changing their life in 30 damn days. It’s not happening. So, first of all, ignore the hype you’re seeing everywhere.

The second thing is that we want to focus on too many things at once. Instead of working on one thing, you want to commit to exercise, journaling, meditation, dieting, etc, etc, etc.

There is no possible way to do all of these things and more and still maintain your sanity. This is a great way to feel overwhelmed and to want to give up, though.

We Gravitate Toward Easy

If you want to lose 20 lbs, buying supplements and vitamins is easy! It’s so easy to sit there in the comfort of your home and shop online. It doesn’t require anything from you except for a credit card.

And we love easy!

We focus on the outliers instead of focusing on things that will move the needle.

I still do this. If I have some work I need to do but it’s going to require something of me, if I even think it’s going to be hard, I can distract myself with a million things. And I see the same thing in my clients.

Instead of focusing on the 5% of actions that will move the needle, they are all too happy to focus on the 95% that makes absolutely no difference when they’re starting out. We want to run after the shiny, easy stuff that won’t hurt too much.

We resist working on the 5% that will make the biggest difference.

Setting Your Intention

When I’m bringing on a new client, I can usually tell within the first few minutes of talking to her what her 5% is going to be.

And y’all, these women resist. They resist working on that 5% with everything they’ve got.

They assure me that that’s not the main issue. They argue about why in the world I want them to do this thing here when they think they should focus on that thing over there.

Focusing on the 95% is what causes you to gain back 55 lbs after you lose 50. If you don’t work on the 5%, if you don’t set an intention, then your goal, whatever it is, won’t stick.

And this is why I despise resolutions and why I am working so hard to get you to stop making them. Resolutions never changed anybody’s life!

Your intentions for the day, for the week, for the month are the steps you take to arrive at your big goal and set up shop there. No more losing the same 20 lbs every year.

Action Plans and Accountability

Another reason we don’t make more progress on our goals, aside from having no plan, is no accountability.

We can write out a plan and have it looking all pretty and we can get all excited about it, but without someone to hold us accountable, we will never achieve it.

When we try to reach our goals by ourselves, we almost always focus on the 95%.

I mean, come on, if you want to lose 50 lbs, what are you going to do first? If you’re like most people, you’ll cut carbs, eat more salads, and take some supplements.

Hell, you might even start going to the gym.

But what you probably won’t do is take time to figure out why you eat ice cream every night in front of the television. You probably won’t ask yourself why you don’t cook anymore even though you say you want to eat healthier.

You need someone to show you what the 5% is for you and help you develop a strategy for focusing on it and making real progress.

Stop Following Somebody Else’s Plan

Please, stop downloading all the free sh*t on Pinterest that promises to help you meal plan, exercise more through ridiculous challenges that strain your tired, undernourished body, or that gives you, “for free,” a plan to change your life in 30 days.

When you try to follow some template that somebody is selling or giving away for free, all you’re doing is following somebody else’s plan. And that person isn’t you!

Online templates are a surefire way to focus on the 95% and completely ignore the 5%. But we like them because they make us feel like we’re doing something, even if what we’re avoiding is the thing that would start to move us in the right direction.

You need your own plan. One that takes into account where you are in process, your personal needs/desires, and your unique strengths and weaknesses.

What Do You Want in 2020?

I want you to take some time to think through and evaluate what it is you want this year.

Go ahead and name those big goals you want to accomplish. And when you’ve got a good handle on the specific things you want to go after in the next 12 months, decide how you’re going to take action.

What will your first step be? If it’s in any way health-related, I would love to be that person who comes alongside you and helps you figure out your strategy. I can help you see what your personal 5% is and together, we can map out a plan to get you where you want to go.

The easiest first step is to join the 2020 Feel Amazing Naked Reboot. This reboot runs from January 13-17, 2020. This will help you figure out where you want to go this year and give you a head start on figuring out your 5%.

Your mission for 2020 is to focus on the tiny little micro-actions that are going to change your life. The 5%.

There may be many layers of this onion that you have to peel back before you get to all the root causes. If you don’t know where to start, I am here to help.
